This is a video for "Saint Mary's Indian Residential School". There are also videos in this channel for more residential schools, many North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ "St. Mary’s Indian Residential School", (a.k.a.: "Wauzhushk Onigum Nation "(WON), was located on Rat Portage First Nation, on Treaty 3 territory. Opened on May 15th 1897, St. Mary’s was run by the Roman Catholic Church. The school closed in 1972. (*Please note, that, there was also another "St. Mary’s Indian Residential School", in Mission, British Columbia.) Both of these schools were notorious, with their inhumane treatment of Indigenous children and their families. Some of the students at St. Mary’s were subjects to a "flour-vitamin experiment". During this five year study/experiment, students were denied dental treatment. St. Mary’s survivors have also brought attention to the poor conditions of the school. Elder Leonard Skye had also attended St. Joseph’s IRS and he highlights the "extensive physical abuse" and punishment, in varying forms and from "various people". There are also reports of the school being overcrowded, with "two times as many students as the space was built for". In addition to all of this, the water was "unfit to drink", as they drank from the lake, "where the sewage originally ran into". ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
