Marieval Indian Residential School: Cowessess First Nation - 751 Graves...

A dawn far to the west of "The Marieval Indian Residential School" and the 751 Graves located in June 2021, on the Cowessess First Nation, in Saskatchewan, Canada
first run by four sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions and subsequently by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe The Marieval Indian Residential School was part of the Canadian Indian residential school system. Located on the Cowessess 73 reserve in Marieval, Saskatchewan, it operated from 1898[nb 1] to 1997. It was located in Qu'Appelle Valley, east of Crooked Lake and 24 km (15 mi) north of Broadview.[4]  The Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions, also known as Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (and as RNDM from the French name Religieuses de Notre Dame des Missions),[1] is a Roman Catholic religious congregation of women.

In June 2021, 751 unmarked graves were found on the school grounds by the Cowessess First Nation, the most found in Canada to date according to the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN), which represents Saskatchewan's First Nations.[5][6][7] This marks the second discovery of unmarked graves in Canada in 2021, following the discovery of 215 unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School the previous month.[8]

Located on the Cowessess 73 reserve, in Saskatchewan, Canada, it operated from 1898 to 1997. It was located in the Qu'Appelle Valley, east of Crooked Lake and 24 km (15 mi) north of Broadview. The school was first run by four sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions and subsequently by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe, from 1901 to 1979. The government of Canada took over running the school in 1969, having funded it, since 1901. 751 Graves Located At Site Of Former Residential School In Saskatchewan - APTN - Kathleen Martens - June 24th 2021 The Cowessess First Nation in southern Saskatchewan says it has located 751 unmarked graves, in its community cemetery. Chief Cadmus Delorme says the graves belong to children connected to the Marieval Indian Residential School, that operated in the community from 1899 to 1997. “This could be triggering, to many”, Chief Delorme told a virtual press conference Thursday morning, which was attended by local, national and international news reporters.“We are talking about unmarked graves. We’re not talking about a mass gravesite.”Chief Delorme said the graves were discovered using ground-penetrating radar, between June 2nd and June 23rd and that each grave, some only one metre by one metre apart, was now marked with a small flag. “Of the 751 "hits", the machine has a 10 to 15 per cent error percentage”. “So we will only go by the hits that we have, of 751" and noted that "there could be more than one set of remains, at each "hit." "But, we do know, there’s at least 600 graves.” Technical teams would be better able to provide a verified number, in the coming weeks, Chief Delorme said. ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
