Where women go missing in Canada | VPRO Documentary

https://youtu.be/yNPKWDEOAD4  [50:10 minutes]

vpro documentary

In Canada, indigenous women are six times more likely to die violently than white women. The Highway of Tears is an endless road in the province of British Columbia, where women and girls have disappeared since the 1970s, at least 19, but unofficially estimated at over 40. Most of them belonged to the indigenous population. They do not stand alone but are said to be the result of more than a hundred years of colonial policy, whereby indigenous children were snatched from their families to be placed in boarding schools. Boarding schools that had to destroy 'the Indian in the child', but in many cases irreparably damaged the child itself. Practices that took place well into the 1990s. Emy Koopman speaks to family members of a girl who disappeared along the Highway of Tears twenty-five years ago and she discovers that the disappearances are still not a thing of the past. Marieval Indian Residential School: Cowessess First Nation - 751 Graves...

A dawn far to the west of "The Marieval Indian Residential School" and the 751 Graves located in June 2021, on the Cowessess First Nation, in Saskatchewan, Canada
first run by four sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions and subsequently by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe The Marieval Indian Residential School was part of the Canadian Indian residential school system. Located on the Cowessess 73 reserve in Marieval, Saskatchewan, it operated from 1898[nb 1] to 1997. It was located in Qu'Appelle Valley, east of Crooked Lake and 24 km (15 mi) north of Broadview.[4]  The Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions, also known as Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (and as RNDM from the French name Religieuses de Notre Dame des Missions),[1] is a Roman Catholic religious congregation of women.

In June 2021, 751 unmarked graves were found on the school grounds by the Cowessess First Nation, the most found in Canada to date according to the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN), which represents Saskatchewan's First Nations.[5][6][7] This marks the second discovery of unmarked graves in Canada in 2021, following the discovery of 215 unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School the previous month.[8]

This is a video for "The Marieval Indian Residential School" and the 751 Graves located in June 2021, on the Cowessess First Nation, in Saskatchewan, Canada. There are also videos in this channel for many North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Residential Schools, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ "The Marieval Indian Residential School" was part of the Canadian Indian residential school system. Located on the Cowessess 73 reserve, in Saskatchewan, Canada, it operated from 1898 to 1997. It was located in the Qu'Appelle Valley, east of Crooked Lake and 24 km (15 mi) north of Broadview. The school was first run by four sisters of the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions and subsequently by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Hyacinthe, from 1901 to 1979. The government of Canada took over running the school in 1969, having funded it, since 1901. 751 Graves Located At Site Of Former Residential School In Saskatchewan - APTN - Kathleen Martens - June 24th 2021 The Cowessess First Nation in southern Saskatchewan says it has located 751 unmarked graves, in its community cemetery. Chief Cadmus Delorme says the graves belong to children connected to the Marieval Indian Residential School, that operated in the community from 1899 to 1997. “This could be triggering, to many”, Chief Delorme told a virtual press conference Thursday morning, which was attended by local, national and international news reporters.“We are talking about unmarked graves. We’re not talking about a mass gravesite.”Chief Delorme said the graves were discovered using ground-penetrating radar, between June 2nd and June 23rd and that each grave, some only one metre by one metre apart, was now marked with a small flag. “Of the 751 "hits", the machine has a 10 to 15 per cent error percentage”. “So we will only go by the hits that we have, of 751" and noted that "there could be more than one set of remains, at each "hit." "But, we do know, there’s at least 600 graves.” Technical teams would be better able to provide a verified number, in the coming weeks, Chief Delorme said. ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. This is a video for "The Indian Act", with some commentary from Elder Bob Joseph on "The Agenda" which concerns all Indigenous and all non-Indigenous Peoples of Canada, in some way. There are also videos in this channel for many North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists ..and much more. ------------------------------------------------ "The Indian Act" (long name: "An Act to amend and consolidate the laws respecting Indians, Loi sur les Indiens") ("the Act"), is a Canadian act of Parliament that concerns registered Indigenous people, their bands and the system of "Indian reserves". First passed in 1876 and still in force, with amendments,(over 36 of them) it is the primary document that defines how the Government of Canada interacts with the 614 First Nation bands in Canada and their members. Throughout its long history, the Act has been a subject of controversy and has been interpreted in different ways, by both Indigenous Canadians and non-Indigenous Canadians. The Assembly of First Nations describes it as: "a form of apartheid." 9 Amnesty International, the United Nations and the Canadian Human Rights Commission have continually criticized it, as: a human rights abuse. These groups claim, that the Canadian government does not have the right to unilaterally extinguish Indigenous/Aboriginal rights, something the government could legally do to "status Indians", up until 1985, through the process of enfranchisement and can still control, through status.Yet, despite controversy, the "Indian Act" is historically and legally significant for Indigenous Peoples. It acknowledges and affirms the unique historical and "constitutional relationship" that Indigenous Peoples have with Canada. For this reason, despite its problematic nature, efforts to outright abolish the "Indian Act" have been met with resistance. ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. This is a video for "Saint Mary's Indian Residential School". There are also videos in this channel for more residential schools, many North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ "St. Mary’s Indian Residential School", (a.k.a.: "Wauzhushk Onigum Nation "(WON), was located on Rat Portage First Nation, on Treaty 3 territory. Opened on May 15th 1897, St. Mary’s was run by the Roman Catholic Church. The school closed in 1972. (*Please note, that, there was also another "St. Mary’s Indian Residential School", in Mission, British Columbia.) Both of these schools were notorious, with their inhumane treatment of Indigenous children and their families. Some of the students at St. Mary’s were subjects to a "flour-vitamin experiment". During this five year study/experiment, students were denied dental treatment. St. Mary’s survivors have also brought attention to the poor conditions of the school. Elder Leonard Skye had also attended St. Joseph’s IRS and he highlights the "extensive physical abuse" and punishment, in varying forms and from "various people". There are also reports of the school being overcrowded, with "two times as many students as the space was built for". In addition to all of this, the water was "unfit to drink", as they drank from the lake, "where the sewage originally ran into". ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. (*Lyrics For The Song In This Video Are Printed Below) ------------------------------------------------ "Genocide" - Judas Priest (Tipton - Halford - Downing) "Mercenary batalions.. Are poised to strike us down.. Terminations conquest.. Upon us now, full grown.. Save me, my heart's open wide.. Help me, no question of pride.. Save me, my people have died.. Total genocide.. Devastation hungers.. She waits to leap to earth.. Imminent liquidation.. Before the grand rebirth.. Save me, my heart's open wide.. Help me, no question of pride.. Save me, my people have died.. Total genocide.. Sin after sin.. I have endured.. Yet the wounds I bear.. Are the wounds of love.. Frantic mindless zombies.. Grab at fleeting time.. Lost in cold perplexion.. Waiting for the sign.. Generations tremble.. Clinging face to face.. Helpless situation.. To end the perfect race.. Flashing senseless sabers.. Cut us to the ground.. Eager for the life blood.. Of all who can be found.. Save me, my heart's open wide.. Help me, no question of pride.. Save me, my people have died.. Total genocide.. Slice to the left, slice to the right.. None to retaliate, none will fight.. Chopping at the hearts, snuffing out the lives.. This race departs, no one will survive.. Heads to the feet, feet to the air.. Souls in the soil, heavy in despair.. End of all ends, body into dust.. To greet death friends.., Extinction is a must. Total Genocide." ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. American Indian Boarding Schools & Missions: 1634-2021 - a.k.a.: Indian ...

This is a video for "American Indian Boarding Schools". There are also videos in this channel for more Canadian Residential Schools.. and for many North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Quotes, Indigenous Concerns, Environmental Youth Activists.. .and much more. ------------------------------------------------ Although there has been much focus, recently, on Canadian Residential Schools, following the horrific news, of the finding of 215 bodies of Indigenous children, in Kamloops B.C.,there was (and still is, in some locations) a disgusting, American counter-part to the shameful history, on Turtle Island. "Indifan American Boarding Schools", (also known as: "Indian Residential Schools") were established in the United States during the early 19th and mid 20th centuries, with a primary objective of: "civilizing" or, "assimilating" Indigenous American children and youth into Euro-American culture. In the process, these schools denigrated Indigenous American culture and made the children give up their language, customs and religion. These boarding schools were first established by Christian missionaries of various denominations, who often started both missions and schools on the numerous tribe reservations, especially, in the lightly populated areas of the West. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the government paid religious orders to provide basic education to Indigenous children on reservations. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) later founded additional boarding schools based on the "assimilation model", usually located off reservations and which sometimes drew children from a variety of tribes. Some off reservation schools, such as St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota, "continue to operate". From 1879, to the present day, it is estimated that "hundreds of thousands" of Indigenous Americans, as children attended Indian boarding schools, although, the first missions and schools date back to the mid-1600's. There were over 350 schools and 64 still remain open, today. ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. Forced Indigenous Foster Children: 2021 - Even More Children,Than In The...

This is a video for "The Forced Indigenous Foster Children" (2021). There are also videos in this channel for many North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Residential Schools, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ The federal government is denying opposition claims that Indigenous parents in Canada continue to face the impossible choice of either, keeping their children, or, surrendering them to the country’s “badly broken and badly underfunded” foster care system, so they can receive healthcare services,"that are not available on Indigenous reserves." New Democratic Party MP Charlie Angus, the NDP’s critic for Indigenous youth issues, says: "thousands of First Nation children are being taken into the foster system because, the federal government has not invested the necessary resources in the Indigenous communities, to help families at risk. It is one of the most shocking things for Canadians to learn that some Indigenous families are being denied services, to the level that they have to actually give their children away to the foster care system. Parents are having to make the choice to give their children to the foster care system to get them provincial medical services, that are being denied them on the reserve. And that is unconscionable, in a country as rich as Canada.” Mumilaaq Qaqqaq, who represents Nunavut, said she has seen far too many friends and Inuit in her territory, dying by suicide and children being "taken from their homes" and placed in the child welfare system. She took issue with politicians this week, portraying the horrors inflicted on Indigenous children by the Canadian government as “historic wrongs”, when speaking of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation’s sad discovery. “Colonization is not over. It has a new name. Children are still being separated from their communities. "Foster care is the new residential school system." The suicide epidemic is the new form, of Indigenous genocide.” ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
