------------------------------------------------ "The
Tuscarora People" (Tuscarora: Skarù:ręˀ, a.k.a.: "hemp
gatherers" or, "Shirt-Wearing People") are a
Indigenous American tribe and First Nations band government of
the Iroquoian-language family, with members today in New York,
USA and Ontario, Canada. They coalesced as a People around the
Great Lakes, likely about the same time as the rise of the Five
Nations of the historic Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy,
also Iroquoian-speaking and based then, in present-day New York.
Well before, the arrival of Europeans in North America, the
Tuscarora People had migrated south and settled in the region now
known, as Eastern Carolina. The most numerous of Indigenous
Peoples in the area, they lived along the Roanoke, Neuse, Tar,
Torhunta or, Narhontes and Pamlico Rivers. After the 18th-century
wars of 1711–1713 (known as: the "Tuscarora War" -
*Separate video in this channel) against English colonists and
their Indigenous allies, most of the surviving Tuscarora left
North Carolina and migrated north to Pennsylvania and New York,
over a period of 90 years. They aligned with the Iroquois in New
York, because, of their ancestral linguistic and cultural
connections. Sponsored by the Oneida, they were accepted in 1722,
as the Sixth Nation of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy.
After the "American Revolution", in which they and the
Oneida allied with the colonists, the Tuscarora People shared
reservation land with the Oneida People, before gaining their
own. Those Tuscarora who allied with the British in the American
Revolution, resettled with other Iroquois tribes, in present-day
Ontario, where they are part of the Six Nations of the Grand
River First Nation (*also a separate video in this channel).

"Eagle Strong Voice and IHRTGC Elders, along with dozens of Canadian Chiefs, presented the: "Mass Graves List" to the United Nations, on "April 19th 2008" and we had asked United Nations agencies to protect and monitor the mass graves, as part of a genuine inquiry and judicial prosecution of those responsible, for this Canadian Genocide. Indigenous children in the United States and Canada were "forcibly taken" from their families and relocated, to residential schools. The stated goal of this government program was to: "kill the Indian, to save the man." Half of the children did not survive the experience, and those who did, later died. They were either murdered, raped, sacrificed or, burned alive and those who ran away and survived, were left permanently scarred. The resulting alcoholism, suicide and the transmission of trauma to their own children has led to a social disintegration, with results, that can only be described as genocidal."

Dark Secret | Featured Documentary In 1996, the last residential
school in Canada was closed down, bringing to light horrifying
stories about the methods used to sever indigenous children from the
influence of their families and to assimilate them into the dominant
"Canadian" culture. Over more than a century, tens of
thousands of families were torn apart as children were kidnapped or
forcibly removed from their homes Residential schools were part of an
extensive education system set up by the Canadian government and
administered by churches with the objective of indoctrinating
Aboriginal children into the Euro-Canadian and Christian way of life.
Bud Whiteye, a survivor of the Mohawk Institute Residential School,
was "picked up" and taken to the school along with four
other children as they walked along a public road to visit his
grandmother. I'm ashamed to say I'm Canadian because of what my
government has done. Ron Short, former RCMP officer "They didn't
put us in a room and indoctrinate us all day long or anything like
that," he explains. "It was in the routine of the place.
"You didn't speak anything but English. You went to the white
man's school. You went to the white man's church. You wore white
mens' clothes. All those were built in. It wasn't a classroom-type
lecture. It was ingrained in the system." In 2008, the Canadian
government launched the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC),
which finally enabled survivors to give their testimonies on life in
the residential schools. Abuse - mental, physical and sexual - was
rife and, although research and statistics vary, it is estimated that
6,000 children died in these schools. Some evidence puts the
casualties at three times that number. After its formation, the TRC
travelled around Canada for six years, gathering testimony from
thousands who bore witness to the tragedies of the residential
schools. Numerous "Aboriginal healing" programmes were put
in place to help those affected to move on with their lives. -

This is a video for "The
Indian Act", with some commentary from Elder Bob Joseph on
"The Agenda" which concerns all Indigenous and all
non-Indigenous Peoples of Canada, in some way. There are also
videos in this channel for many North & South American Tribes
& First Nations, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events,
Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists ..and
much more. ------------------------------------------------ "The
Indian Act" (long name: "An Act to amend and
consolidate the laws respecting Indians, Loi sur les Indiens")
("the Act"), is a Canadian act of Parliament that
concerns registered Indigenous people, their bands and the system
of "Indian reserves". First passed in 1876 and still in
force, with amendments,(over 36 of them) it is the primary
document that defines how the Government of Canada interacts with
the 614 First Nation bands in Canada and their members.
Throughout its long history, the Act has been a subject of
controversy and has been interpreted in different ways, by both
Indigenous Canadians and non-Indigenous Canadians. The Assembly
of First Nations describes it as: "a form of apartheid."
9 Amnesty International, the United Nations and the Canadian
Human Rights Commission have continually criticized it, as: a
human rights abuse. These groups claim, that the Canadian
government does not have the right to unilaterally extinguish
Indigenous/Aboriginal rights,something the government could
legally do to "status Indians", up until 1985, through
the process of enfranchisement and can still control, through
status.Yet, despite controversy, the "Indian Act" is
historically and legally significant for Indigenous Peoples. It
acknowledges and affirms the unique historical and
"constitutional relationship" that Indigenous Peoples
have with Canada. For this reason, despite its problematic
nature, efforts to outright abolish the "Indian Act"
have been met with resistance.

"Turtle Island". There are also videos in this channel
for many more North & South American Tribes & First
Nations, Chiefs, Residential Schools, Elders, Historical Events,
Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and

Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation" is a Dakota First Nations
band government in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. The band
controls a reserve at Standing Buffalo 78. The band is named
after Chief Standing Buffalo (Tatankanaje), who succeeded his
father as Hereditary Chief, in 1871. His people were given
permission to farm north of the Qu'Appelle Lakes, Saskatchewan
and their reserve was created in 1881. After all of these bands
had moved onto their reserves, they were subject to the
"restrictive provisions" of the "Indian Act"
and their travel was controlled by the pass system, a policy
"never codified by law, but, that restricted Indigenous
mobility in the West" from the 1880's, to roughly the
1930's. Those wishing to leave the reserve, could only do so,
with the written "permission" of an Indian Agent.
Traditional Indigenous music and dancing is highlighted at the
province’s many annual powwows, including Standing Buffalo
First Nation’s powwow, one of the largest in the province,
which is held every summer, on their reserve, near Fort
Qu’Appelle. FOR MORE INFORMATION: Standing Buffalo Dakota
