Memory Tree 2020

100 Mile District Hospice 2020 Memory Tree Candle Lighting Candle of Grief This candle represents our grief. The pain of losing someone we love is intense. We are reminded of the depth of our grief and the depth of our love. Candle of Courage This candle represents our courage. Courage to confront our sorrow, to comfort each other, and to change our lives. Candle of Memories This candle is lit for our memories. For the times we laughed, the times we cried, the time we were angry with each other, the silly things we did, the caring and joy given us, for all we learned from the ones we now remember. Candle of Hope This is the candle of hope. Hope sees what has not yet been, and what will be. We depend on hope to survive. In the glow of the candle we see the future in the light of pure hope. Candle of Love We light this candle of love in honour of ALL that have lost a loved one. Acknowledging our grief, courage, memories, and hope, we light a candle of love. It is the greatest gift of all. Kelly’s Poem: The Memory Tree written and read by Kelly De La Mare Song: Meet Me on the Mountain written by Jay Cobb Anderson & Tyler Grant performed by Tanya Guenther & Tracy Lynn Reading of the names to be remembered. Ogookiing: Marten Falls & Ogoki First Nation - Anishinaabe - Cochrane & ...

This is a video for "Ogookiing: Marten Falls & Ogoki Post First Nations", who are joined Anishinaabe-Ojibway communities, located in the Cochrane & Kenora Districts, Northern Ontario, Canada. There are also videos in this channel for many more North, South & Central American Tribes & First Nations, Residential Schools, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ "Marten Falls First Nation" is an Anishinaabe - Ojibway First Nation reserve, located in Northern Ontario. The First Nation occupies communities on both sides of the Albany River in Northern Ontario, including Ogoki Post (Ojibwe: "Ogookiing"), in the Cochrane District and Marten Falls, in the Kenora District. "Ogoki" (a.k.a.: "Ogoki Post") is a First Nation community managed by the Marten Falls Band. Marten Falls First Nation is the home community of Chanie Wenjack, a young boy who died, in 1966, while trying to return home, after escaping from an Indian residential school. His story was dramatized in "Secret Path", a multimedia music, film and graphic novel project, by Gord Downie and Jeff Lemire. The "James Bay Treaty" created detrimental lasting effects on all of the Indigenous communities throughout the territory. Although, the Crown and Indigenous Peoples forged a treaty relationship, starting in 1905, "colonial policies of assimilation conflicted with the spirit of friendship that the treaty "promised". In the decades since the James Bay Treaty signing, Ontario restrictions placed on hunting, trapping and fishing by Indigenous communities created conflict and diminished Indigenous Peoples’ health and "quality of life". Indigenous communities maintain, that the treaty commissioners made "oral promises" that "guaranteed" First Nations’ right to hunt, trap and fish, as they always had. Therefore, "any and all government policies that restrict their traditional activities (both on and outside the reserve), conflict with their "inherent treaty rights". In contrast, Ontario’s position echoes the words on the written document, which stipulated that, these rights were “subject to such regulations'. Elder John Fletcher, who was present at the James Bay Treaty signing said that, a leader asked one of the Treaty Commissioners: "Will our hunting be affected by the Treaty?". The Commissioner answered: ‘This hunting right will never be taken away. Do you see this river, that never stops flowing? This Treaty will be an example to it." The explanations of the commissioners were not entirely truthful and were given in a way, that the Indians could believe, their rights would be protected by the treaty. ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. This is a video for: "Skarù:rę: The Tuscarora People". There are also videos in this channel for many other North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Residential Schools, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more. ------------------------------------------------ "The Tuscarora People" (Tuscarora: Skarù:ręˀ, a.k.a.: "hemp gatherers" or, "Shirt-Wearing People") are a Indigenous American tribe and First Nations band government of the Iroquoian-language family, with members today in New York, USA and Ontario, Canada. They coalesced as a People around the Great Lakes, likely about the same time as the rise of the Five Nations of the historic Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy, also Iroquoian-speaking and based then, in present-day New York. Well before, the arrival of Europeans in North America, the Tuscarora People had migrated south and settled in the region now known, as Eastern Carolina. The most numerous of Indigenous Peoples in the area, they lived along the Roanoke, Neuse, Tar, Torhunta or, Narhontes and Pamlico Rivers. After the 18th-century wars of 1711–1713 (known as: the "Tuscarora War" - *Separate video in this channel) against English colonists and their Indigenous allies, most of the surviving Tuscarora left North Carolina and migrated north to Pennsylvania and New York, over a period of 90 years. They aligned with the Iroquois in New York, because, of their ancestral linguistic and cultural connections. Sponsored by the Oneida, they were accepted in 1722, as the Sixth Nation of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy. After the "American Revolution", in which they and the Oneida allied with the colonists, the Tuscarora People shared reservation land with the Oneida People, before gaining their own. Those Tuscarora who allied with the British in the American Revolution, resettled with other Iroquois tribes, in present-day Ontario, where they are part of the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation (*also a separate video in this channel). ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks. There are also videos in this channel for many more North & South American Tribes & First Nations, Chiefs, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more.
------------------------------------------------ "Eagle Strong Voice and IHRTGC Elders, along with dozens of Canadian Chiefs, presented the: "Mass Graves List" to the United Nations, on "April 19th 2008" and we had asked United Nations agencies to protect and monitor the mass graves, as part of a genuine inquiry and judicial prosecution of those responsible, for this Canadian Genocide. Indigenous children in the United States and Canada were "forcibly taken" from their families and relocated, to residential schools. The stated goal of this government program was to: "kill the Indian, to save the man." Half of the children did not survive the experience, and those who did, later died. They were either murdered, raped, sacrificed or, burned alive and those who ran away and survived, were left permanently scarred. The resulting alcoholism, suicide and the transmission of trauma to their own children has led to a social disintegration, with results, that can only be described as genocidal." - Eagle Strong Voice (Kevin Annett) and IHRTGC Elders (International Human Rights Tribunal into Genocide in Canada). ------------------------------------------------- I claim no ownership of any of the clips, video and music expressed in this video...and employ my borrowing of them with much respect and thanks.
